At SEPS, student well-being remains a priority alongside academic success. During these times, it is natural for students to experience stress or anxiety. Developing healthy coping strategies can help you manage these feelings and maintain focus and balance.
We would like to share a few simple techniques that can support you in managing moments of anxiety (Please find the attachment).
1) Box Breathing
Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds, and hold again for 4 seconds. Repeat for about one minute to help regulate breathing and promote relaxation.
2) 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique
Focus on your surroundings by identifying:
• 5 things you can see
• 4 things you can touch
• 3 things you can hear
• 2 things you can smell
• 1 thing you can taste
This technique helps shift attention to the present moment.
3) Butterfly Tap
Cross your arms over your chest and gently tap your shoulders alternately for about 30 seconds. This rhythmic movement can help reduce stress and bring a sense of calm.
4) Cold Water Reset
Applying cold water to your wrists or temples for a few seconds may help refresh your body and reduce physical tension.
5) Name It to Tame It
Acknowledging your feelings by saying, "I notice that I feel anxious," can help you better understand and regulate your emotions.
Students are encouraged to practice these strategies whenever needed. If you feel overwhelmed or require additional support, please do not hesitate to reach out to your teachers, the school counsellor, or a member of the school leadership team.
