Greetings from Sunrise English Private School.
In observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, In line with the cybersecurity awareness campaign launched by the UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI), in collaboration with Dubai Police and the Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC), and in accordance with applicable ADEK student behaviour and safeguarding requirements, Sunrise English Private School wishes to emphasise the importance of responsible online conduct and the serious consequences of cyberbullying, online harassment and digital misconduct.
All students are expected to understand that online misconduct is not a joke, harmless entertainment or an acceptable way to target others. Insulting messages, humiliating photographs, offensive memes, threatening comments, fake accounts, malicious rumours and the unauthorised sharing of private content can cause significant harm and may constitute offences under UAE law.
UAE LAW: SERIOUS OFFENCES, SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES
Under Article 43 of Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes, certain forms of online insult and defamation may attract imprisonment and fines ranging from AED 250,000 to AED 500,000, or either penalty, depending on the circumstances and applicable legal provisions.
Students must not assume that deleting a message, using a fake account or claiming that something was intended as a joke will automatically protect them from accountability.
STRICT EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL STUDENTS
Students are strictly instructed to refrain from:
Insulting, threatening, humiliating or defaming classmates, teachers or any other individual online.
Creating fake accounts or using digital platforms to harass, ridicule or target others.
Sharing private messages, screenshots, photographs or recordings without appropriate permission where this violates another person's privacy.
Creating or forwarding offensive memes, rumours, edited images or humiliating content.
Participating in group harassment, cyberbullying or the circulation of content intended to damage another person's dignity or reputation.
PARENTS' RESPONSIBILITY AND COOPERATION
Parents are strongly requested to monitor their wards' digital activities appropriately and ensure that they understand the seriousness of online misconduct. Any incident involving cyberbullying, threats, harassment or the misuse of digital platforms should be addressed promptly and reported to the school where appropriate.
The school will investigate reported incidents and take suitable disciplinary action in accordance with its policies and applicable ADEK requirements. Serious cases may be referred to the relevant authorities for further action, in accordance with applicable UAE laws and ADEK requirements.
Let this be clearly understood: behaviour that harms, intimidates or humiliates another person will not be dismissed simply because it occurs online. Every student is accountable for their conduct, and all members of our school community are expected to uphold respect, integrity and responsibility at all times.
Sunrise English Private School remains committed to safeguarding every student's dignity, wellbeing and safety. We expect the full cooperation of parents and students in maintaining a safe, respectful and responsible digital environment.
Your cooperation in this matter is expected and appreciated
Thanks and Regards,
